1971 Vega owned by Mark Milford

Car of the Month this month is this 1971 Vega owned by Mark Milford, aka, oobob on our Motorsports Village Forum.

Marks Vega runs a 13 to 1 355 SBC engine. The 4 bolt block has a GM 1182 crank, 6 Carrillo rods, Brownfield 23* aluminum heads with a Comp Cams cam and lifters and Sharp rockers. Intake is a Edelbrock Victor Jr which is fed by a Rupert 750 alky carb and a BLP belt drive fuel pump.

That engine is connected to a PTC 9 converter then to a PowerGlide transmission. The 4 link rear end in the car is a Ford 9 with 5:13 gears, Moser 35 spline axles and Strange double adjustable coil overs. Front end uses modified 71 Mercury Capri struts and disk brakes. A set of 14x32 Goodyears handle the hook!

The frame is 2x3 inch tubing and has 1 5/8 roll cage. The car weighs 2460 race ready w/driver.

Mark says hes updated almost everything on the car and now it has Autorod electrical harness, MSD Digital 7 ignition w/HVC coil and 8.5mm Super Conductor wires. Delay is handled by a Mega 450 box.

Mark says in a 4 week period last summer the Vega is pretty consistent as it has made over 30 passes of 6.28 @ 109. Although hes never won with this car yet it has been to the final 4 times and 3 times to the semis.

Best ET to date was at Montgomery, Al when it ran a 6.05 @ 112 with -400 ft density altitude.
